Lorry driver misjudges height of low bridge as crane being carried clips top and falls into road

This is the moment a crane truck collides with a bridge marked 'low' after misjudging the height.

CCTV footage showed the lorry carrying a crane approaching a bridge in Cradley Heath, West Midlands, before the machinery gets caught and ripped off.

As the vehicle passes under, the protruding crane impacts on the bridge, which has been labelled as 'low', and jerks the truck backwards on December 2.

The wheels on the truck lift slightly as it is pulled backwards as the crane catches the crossing.

The machinery is ripped from the back of the vehicle and falls onto the road, which resulted in 'travel chaos' for the surrounding area.

Footage of the vehicle colliding with the crossing was shared on social media, with users left in disbelief over the video.

One wrote: 'Baffles me how these idiots pass their test.'

Another said: 'He caused chaos! Took ages to get out of work.'

Police later tweeted an image of the destroyed bridge and warning of 'chaos' on the roads as a result.

Rowley Police shared the image and said: 'Traffic chaos by Station street and Chester road due to an accident. Traffic moving very slowly. Please be patient!'

West Midlands Railways also revealed that trains were forced to slow down as they passed over the crash site.

A West Midlands Railways spokesman said: 'Because of a road vehicle colliding with a bridge earlier today between Stourbridge Junction and Birmingham Snow Hill.

'Trains have to run at reduced speed.'
