Lidl and Morrisons launch pigs in blankets pizza ahead of Christmas

Pigs in blankets are a favourite trimming for many on a Christmas dinner plate, but now you can enjoy the meaty treat on a pizza ahead of December 25.

Both Lidl and Morrisons have launched their unveiled the Christmas combo that brings together two of the UK's favourites in one genius festive treat, the pigs in blanket pizza.

At Lidl, for £3.29, shoppers can indulge in a stoned-baked sourdough base pizza topped with a rich Mediterranean style tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, red onions, cranberry sauce and the star of the show - pigs in blankets.

After wowing customers last year with its festive flavours, the show-stopping pizza is returning to Lidl shelves from Thursday 3rd December. 

Meanwhile, at Morrisons, customers can pick up a Christmas dinner pizza for £2.89, which is available now.

The dish is made on a 10' deep pan pizza has a classic tomato and mozzarella base which is then layered with Christmas favourites including sage and onion turkey, pigs in blankets and dollops of fruity cranberry sauce.   

The Christmas treat has already been spotted by food blogger newfoodsuk and it seems people are keen to have a taste.

It comes after Pizza Hut Delivery also launched a Christmas special pizza, which boasts rotisserie chicken, crispy bacon and sage and onion stuffing on a red wine gravy base.

One commented: 'Look at this for a pizza' while another wrote 'they just upped their pizza game'.

Meanwhile one customer took to Twitter and wrote: 'Morrisons Christmas turkey pizza is absolutely delicious!!!!'. 

However, others were left put off by the unusual toppings, leaving a series of sick emojis on the profile.

Leanne Cory, Pizza Buyer at Morrisons told FEMAIL : 'Pigs in blankets are often the most popular part of the Christmas dinner and it's never too early to start enjoying them so we've made them a hero of our new pizza. 

The Christmas treat has already been spotted by food blogger newfoodsuk and it seems people are keen to have a taste. However, others were left put off by the unusual toppings, leaving a series of sick emojis on the profile.

'Our instore pizza makers are combining the pigs in blankets with turkey and cranberry sauce to create a real taste of Christmas and get us all in the festive spirit.'

The Christmas Dinner Pizza is available now at all Morrisons stores with a Market Street pizza counter.
