Kate Middleton was dignified and composed as she arrived at the castle alone

The Duchess of Cambridge was the picture of elegance as she stepped out to mourn the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Kate Middleton, 39, sported a chic black ensemble complete with the Queen's pearl choker, from Her Majesty's personal collection, to the poignant service in Windsor yesterday afternoon.

The royal wore a £1,605 Roland Mouret dress with an asymmetrical neckline, a piece she had previously worn to the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance in 2018, with a black face covering and a Philip Treacy velvet pillbox hat.

Speaking exclusively to FEMAIL, celebrity stylist Rachel Gold said the Duchess of Cambridge's choice of outfit perfectly reflected her 'elegance and dedication to be a grounded person' - adding that the look is also a sign of her 'suitability and devotion to the royal family.'

Meanwhile, stylist Rochelle White agreed that the mother-of-three appeared to be 'consciously styled', and that being seen in Her Majesty's jewels could be a subtle sign Kate will be 'stepping up' to support the Royal Family.

'Kate's outfit for Prince Philip's funeral was sleek, classy and elegant', Rochelle explained. 'The necklace was from the Queen's personal collection and I feel this could of been a subtle sign that Kate will be stepping up to support William and the royals.'

The stylist went on: 'She has always had a elegant and classy look to her fashion style, but I feel this one could be more significant than any other look.

'I don’t think Kate's look was overstated. I feel it was suitable for the occasion but was also eye catching. I feel her outfits are consciously styled to say something without actually saying anything.'

She paired her outfit with the Japanese Pearl choker necklace and the Bahrain Pearl Diamond Drop Earrings which also came from Her Majesty's private collection

Rachel added that wearing the Queen's jewels demonstrates 'just how suitable, appropriate, stylish and composed the duchess is.'

She commented: 'How fitting that Kate Middleton should be wearing a beautifully made Catherine Walker coat dress. The Company proudly maintains its position as a leading British couture house.

'The length of the coat was perfect as was the elegant pointed court shoe, dark tights and smart gold trimmed clutch and gloves.'

The stylist continued that the duchess' choice of beautifully manicured nails with no colour 'signified dignity and purity.'

'Also wearing a recycled Philip Traece Fascinator, again we are reminded of the understated elegance and dedication to be a grounded person and a cherished woman of the people,' Rachel continued.

'Time and time again we see just how perfectly composed and dignified the Duchess of Cambridge is and how her choice of elegant sophistication shows her suitability and devotion to the royal family.'

'In the coming months we can be assured that Kate Middleton will represent the royal family with the utmost decorum and style.

'Wearing a mixture of feminine and stylish designers from both High End to High Street Kate shows us the accessible fashion and is never shy to re wear outfits.'

Meanwhile, celebrity hairstylist James Johnson revealed that the duchess' hairstyle was positioned in a 'sophisticated' matter to create a demure and dignified look to honour the late royal.

'Kate's hair was beautifully style up for the funeral, with the low-key style keeping the look formal and lady like,' he commented.

'Her polished look showed off her elegant style, sophisticatedly positioned to honour the duke's sad passing. She’s becoming the best role model, and icon that will be an outstanding Queen in years to come.'
