Kamala Harris moves into Washington DC mansion directly across the street from the White House

Kamala Harris is spending her first weekend as Vice-President in her new Washington D.C. mansion.

At 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue, Harris along with her husband, Doug Emhoff, are right across the street from the White House and its new resident, President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden at 1600.

Harris, 56, was living in Los Angeles until the inauguration on Wednesday and has now moved into Blair House.

The Blair house, also known as the President's guest house is where Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff are to live

Blair House is composed of 119 rooms and spread across 60,000 square feet across four townhouses. One of the many drawing rooms is pictured

The 19th-century row house is made up of four townhouses that have been combined into one.

Built in 1824 as a private home for the first general of the US Army the house features several historic furnishings.

The property was purchased by the U.S. government in 1942 when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president.

It comes complete with an enormous library home to 1,500 books on the history and culture of the U.S.

At a massive 60,600 square feet, the home, complete with 119 rooms, 14 bedrooms and 35 bathrooms, is larger than the White House.

'Its such a cozy and beautiful place,' says Capricia Marshall, a former chief of protocol and current board member of the Blair House Restoration Fund to the Washington Post. 'There is so much history here, and it tells the great story of our country. So many presidents have passed through that black and white marble threshold. Yes, it has a lot of square footage, but it feels like a home.'

The home often serves as a meeting space for events related to foreign affairs where lunches can be held

There is plenty of space to sit down and work on important legislation away from the hustle and bustle of the White House

The 14 guest suites each come complete with full bathrooms. There are three formal dining rooms and two large conference rooms.

Usually, the home is used as a guest house for the President's official foreign visitors and the VP would normally stay at the Naval Observatory, some three miles away, however following Mike Pence's departure the property is undergoing renovations.

Blair House required 18 full time staff to run the massive property and includes a hot and cold kitchen with a chef and sous chef overseeing the operation.

In 2018, Washington interior designer Thomas Pheasant redid the guest room known as Mrs. Truman's Bedroom with lighter bed linens and hangings and toile upholstered walls

Blair House has been the president’s guesthouse since 1942. It has become the traditional quarters for the incoming president on the eve of the inauguration and a place for diplomatic entertaining

The Lincoln Room is filled with period engravings, portraits and letters relating to Abraham Lincoln. This room was designed by Mark Hampton during the 1980s overhaul of Blair House. Lincoln is known to have been a frequent visitor at Blair House

Some famous guests have stayed in the house during visits to Washington including the Queen, Margaret Thatcher, Vladimir Putin and Justin Trudeau.

When former president die, their family members are allowed to stay at the home before the funeral.

Joe Biden stayed there on Tuesday night before heading to his inauguration on the National Mall on Wednesday.
