She said: 'I have been singing and writing songs since I was 11, but when I finished school I realised it is something I love and I wanted to make it into a career.

'I love UK pop music, especially Lily Allen and Charli XCX. I have experimented with a lot of pop styles but really into bedroom pop at the moment.

'I just want to make music and share it with as many people as I can! I am going to release my first original single soon and I can't wait!'

Like many performers, Maisie has missed being able to take to the stage or go to the studio over lockdown. But she has found a creative outlet on TikTok, where she has been discovered by new fans drawn to her 'unique' voice.

'It has been really sad not being able to play shows and not going to the studio as much as I'd like,' Maisie said.

'I also miss going to gigs and festivals - I really love that and it has been a big gap in my life.'

She continued: 'TikTok is a great way to get my music to people, I am excited to continue sharing everything I am doing and I really hope people enjoy my original music.'

Her mother Jo Brand occasionally appears alongside her daughter in the clips, gamely joining in on some of the trends.

In one TikTok video, she shares her mother a clip of her mother, 63, appearing on the Graham Norton show with One Direciton star Liam Payne in 2018.

In the clip, which Maisie jokes is the 'most devastating moment of her life', Jo says Maisie will be 'seething' with jealousy  watching the clip before getting a hug from the heart throb.

'That 100 per cent was the most jealous I have ever been! It can't get worse than that,' Maisie told FEMAIL.

Maisie revealed she and her mother share the same 'sarcastic' sense of humour and clearly share a close relationship.

Speaking previously, Jo said she hoped she would be able to pass this onto her children. 'I like to think that I'm a kind mother, an entertaining mother, that I'm humourous and they are developing a nice sense of humour,' she told the Guardian.

'And that I'm fair. I had my first daughter, Maisie, when I was 43 and Eliza two years later. I get quite a lot of: "What lovely grandchildren you've got." The kids just snigger at that.'
