Home and Away actor Ben Unwin dies at age 41

Popular Home and Away star Ben Unwin, who played the role of bad boy Jesse McGregor on the long-running Australian soap, has died at the age of 41. 

NSW Police confirmed his death in a statement to Yahoo! Lifestyle on Tuesday, but did not disclose how the actor died. 

'Police attended Minyon Falls, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare,' said a police spokesperson.

'The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious,' the statement concluded.

According to Yahoo! Lifestyle, Ben died last week shortly before his 42nd birthday. 

On Tuesday, Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou led the tributes to Ben, saying: 'I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben's passing, my heart goes out to his family.'

Veteran actress Lynne McGranger added: 'What a terrible tragedy. Sending my deepest condolences to his family and friends.'

A Channel Seven spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: 'Cast and crew from Home and Away are saddened to learn of the passing of former cast mate, Ben Unwin.

'Ben's work in the role of Jesse McGregor is remembered with much affection. Ben's family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.'

Ben's character, Jesse, first arrived at Summer Bay in 1996. He was a rebellious figure who lived on the wrong side of the law.

Jesse was later falsely accused of burning down the shop for insurance money and spent time in jail for robbery.

Ben's first stint on the show lasted between 1996 and 2000.

In 1997, he was nominated for Most Popular New Talent at the Logie Awards, Australia's equivalent of the BAFTAs or Emmys.

After a two-year absence, he returned in 2002 before leaving Summer Bay permanently in 2005. 

Around this time, he gave up acting and completed a law degree. In recent years, he worked as a senior solicitor in Sydney.
