Great-grandmother, 88, died of 'brain injury' after altercation with fellow care home resident

A great-grandmother died of a suspected brain injury after an 'altercation' with a fellow care home resident, an inquest has heard.

Retired secretary Audrey Mason, 88, fell after arguing with another resident at the White House residential home in Wrexham, North Wales last month.

The mother-of-two was admitted to Wrexham Maelor Hospital on July 12 and was discharged two days later, Ruthin County Hall heard.

Retired secretary Audrey Mason, 88, fell after arguing with another resident at the White House residential home in Wrexham, North Wales last month

She was then readmitted to the hospital, where she died of a suspected subarachnoid haemorrhage - a form of stroke in which bleeding occurs into the fluid-filled space surrounding the brain - on July 19.

Police were called in to investigate how Ms Mason, who was described as a 'dear gran and great-gran' by her family, fell after the 'altercation'.

John Gittins, coroner for North Wales, heard no case of criminality was found against either resident involved as both were declared to have insufficient capacity to be held responsible by North Wales Police.

The inquest at Ruthin was adjourned to a later date pending further investigation.
