Gang members fire more than 100 shots at car, killing Mexico police chief

This is the horrifying moment members of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's old Mexican cartel executed a police chief while he was in his car, peppering his vehicle with more than 100 gunshots. 

Two men, armed with AK-47s, are firing on Ramón Muñiz's car which is parked in a street in Culiacán, Sinaloa at 7:30am Thursday. 

Infobae reported that the suspects followed Muñiz after he left his home and then blocked his path on along a nearby street before executing him. 

Ramón Muñiz, a 24-year law enforcement veteran in Mexico, was killed by alleged gunmen tied to the Sinaloa Cartel on Wednesday in Culiacán, Sinaloa. At least one armed man driving the vehicle that was used to intercept the 50-year-old man was arrested later in the day in Mazatlán

The assailants subsequently fled from the scene in a grey vehicle. 

The Sinaloa State Attorney General said one armed suspect was apprehended in Mazatlán, about two and a half hours away, driving the same car that reportedly fled escaped scene of the tragic shooting.

A spokesperson for the attorney general's office told DailyMail.com that the individual was wanted for another crime. 

The prosecutor's office did not release the suspect's name because the investigation surrounding Muñiz's murder is still ongoing. 

The 50-year-old spent 24 years in law enforcement with the Sinaloa State Attorney General's office, and spend the last three years in charge of the arrest unit. 

Multiple Mexican news outlets that there has been an uptick in cartel violence throughout Sinaloa due to infighting within the Sinaloa Cartel between an armed group led by Los Chapitos, three of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons, and a faction commanded by the organization's co-founder, Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada.
