This is the heartstopping moment a dog's leash got caught in a pair of closing elevator doors in an apartment block in China, leaving it hanging from the ceiling when the lift started moving

According to the news site Baidu, the dog entered the lift alone and its lead was caught in the closing doors.

In the footage, the dog is seen walking into the open lift with its lead trailing outside as the doors suddenly close on the 22nd floor.

The lift descends and the yelping dog is yanked towards the ceiling where it dangles by the lead.

A shocked delivery man opens the door of the lift moments later, one floor down, to find the yelping dog hanging by its lead in front of him

He quickly grabbed the pooch into his arms to take the weight off, before working to free the dog from its collar and lead and carried the animal away to track down its owner

Fortunately, a delivery man opens the door of the lift one floor down and is visably shocked to find the dog hanging by its lead in front of him

At first, he recoils at the unexpected sight but then quickly grabs the pooch into his arms to take the weight off, before attempting to remove its lead.

The man then works to free the dog from its collar and lead while, preventing the doors from closing.

Once the dog is free he leaves the leash hanging in the doorway and carries the animal away to track down its owner.
