Doctors whose big day was cancelled treated to surprise virtual wedding party with over 50 people

A couple whose nuptials were cancelled due to coronavirus were treated to a surprise wedding party on Zoom.

Zoe Davies and Tom Jackson, of London, who are both NHS doctors, are one of the thousands of couples whose plans to wed were postponed as a result of the UK going into lockdown last month.

To help them celebrate on what would have been their big day, Tom's brother organised a surprise virtual wedding party.

More than 50 households tuned in to the gathering, hosted on Zoom, with many dressing up in their finery and raising a glass to the happy couple.

Speaking to the BBC, Zoe said: 'It's actually been really amazing, and so nice to see everyone.

'Hopefully we will all get through coronavirus and then we'll be able to have a big party and it will be as we planned.'

Tom added: 'I think we might need to up the booze order though.'

Several guests read poems and tributes to the couple, while Tom also delivered an emotional speech.

He told friends and family: 'I can't wait to share with you, I can't wait to celebrate with you, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with my beautiful wife,' - which received a round of applause.
