Former Vice President Joe Biden leads Donald Trump in North Carolina by six percentage points in a new poll, as both candidates battle over a state that could make the difference if Biden slips in Pennsylvania.
Biden leads Trump 52 to 46 in the new NBC / Marist survey. The poll is among a handful in recent days that have the Democrat leading, although Biden's lead is just over 1 per cent in the Realclearpolitics polling average.
The lead is within the poll's hefty 4.7 margin of error. However the NBC poll also showed other Democrats running up big margins statewide. Democrat Cal Cunningham, whose Senate bid has had to contend with the emergence of racy texts to a woman not his wife, leads GOP Sen. Thom Tillis by 10 percentage points, 53 to 43.

Popular Gov. Roy Cooper is at 59 per cent.
Trump also has to deal with an unfavorable court ruling in the state, although they have gone the other way in different sates. North Carolina officials will be allowed to count ballots postmarked after Election Day for nine days after Election Day.
North Carolina, which went for Trump in 2016, has 15 electoral votes. It represents an opportunity for Biden to try to reach the magic 270 electoral votes needed if he should falter in Pennsylvania, where his leads have been consistent but narrower than in Michigan and Wisconsin. Trump carried all three of those states in 2016.
Trump continues to hold a national lead of about 8 percentage points in poll averages – giving him the advantage on Election Day, although a polling error or unexpected development could still hand victory to President Trump.
Trump had to scrap a planned rally in Fayetteville Thursday due to high wind forecasts. Instead he did a short visit to Fort Bragg. He rescheduled a rally for Monday.
In a sign he may be feeling the heat in North Carolina, Trump raged at 2 am on Twitter on Supreme Court rulings allowing for extended counts in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
''If Sleepy Joe Biden is actually elected President, the 4 Justices (plus1) that helped make such a ridiculous win possible would be relegated to sitting on not only a heavily PACKED COURT, but probably a REVOLVING COURT as well. At least the many new Justices will be Radical Left!,' he wrote.
