Dad is dragged from his vehicle, bashed and choked out by a ruthless carjacker

Police are hunting a man following a vicious carjacking where a dad was bashed and choked until he was unconscious.

The victim was attacked about 10.30pm on Tuesday while he waited to pick up his daughter from a nearby house in Moorooka, in Brisbane's south.

An unknown man opened the driver’s side door of the Toyota Echo and demanded the owner get out before punching him in the face.

The car stolen from the victim (pictured above) was later found burnt out in nearby bushland

A struggle followed before the 56-year-old man was pulled from the car and put in a chokehold until he passed out and fell on the road.

The carjacker then stole the car and fled as the victim woke up and dived on to the Toyota to prevent it from leaving, but fell off on to the road.

The victim suffered cuts and swelling to his face and his car was found on fire in bushland the next day in nearby Parkinson.

A fire was quickly brought under control at the scene - but the car was unable to be salvaged.

Detectives have since released an image of the man they believe is responsible for the violent carjacking.

He is believed to be in his 20s with a fair complexion, slim build, clean shaven with light brown shaggy hair.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
