Police say they have found the weapon used in the alleged murder of a young Queensland mother at a coastal town in northern Tasmania.

Colin William Drake, 35, has been charged with murdering the 23-year-old and has appeared in court once but is yet to enter a plea.

Tasmania Police released a statement on Friday saying the alleged murder weapon had been recovered.
