Cold-blooded thief is caught on camera stealing a CROCODILE and two snakes from Canberra Reptile Zoo

A 'heartless thief' has been caught on camera breaking into a zoo and stealing a crocodile and two pythons in the early hours of the morning.

The man broke into Canberra Reptile Zoo at 6am Friday morning, and took off with a Stimpson Python called Tim Tam, a hatchling jungle python called Zebra, and Jaws Jr the freshwater crocodile.

The Zoo said it was devastated and released CCTV footage of the theft online.

Zoo owner Peter Child believes the man (pictured) knew what he was taking, as he also appeared to steal supplies to take care of the reptile

'Our security footage shows that they were targeting some of the display animals, two of our pythons, they went straight for those,' owner and managing director Peter Child told ABC.

'Then they came back and removed a whole lot of products just to add insult to injury, they also removed our sound effects stereo and our register computer.'

Mr Child said the brazen thief also managed to take a tub from the back room while was holding the crocodile.

'The thief targeted the animals specifically and also took several items needed to keep them'.

He believes the man knew what he was taking, as he also appeared to steal supplies to take care of the reptile.

Mr Child fears for Jaws Jr's life, as young crocodiles don't live long without being taken care of correctly.

'None of the animals that were taken are a danger to the public, but obviously if they're not cared for correctly, they are in danger of not surviving, particularly the freshwater crocodile.

Devastated zoo manager Peter Child  (pictured) said that crocodiles aren't an easy animal to hide, and hopes it will turn up eventually

Mr Child said the stolen animals aren't worth a lot of money, and more valuable animals hadn't been taken.

The crocodile was microchipped, so Mr Child believes when he turns up he will be quickly found.

'As a non profit organization this has hit us hard but emotionally myself and the staff are shattered'.
