Canberra records 13 new Covid cases on Tuesday

The ACT has recorded 13 new coronavirus cases as Chief Minister Andrew Barr foreshadows travel resuming between Canberra, NSW and Victoria.

Of Tuesday's cases, a source could be found for 11 while the remainder were under investigation.

At least seven were in the community for some of their infectious periods. One was in quarantine the whole time.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr said he was confident the freedom to travel between the ACT, NSW and Victoria could resume in the coming months.

'We continue to work with the NSW government and the Victorian government on interstate travel requirements,' he told reporters on Tuesday.

But the chief minister expects the ACT to remain locked out of COVID-free jurisdictions like Western Australia for a while yet.

From Friday, the ACT will relax coronavirus restrictions slightly.

Two visitors will be allowed at a home and up to five people from different households will be able to gather outside for four hours.

Canberra's lockdown is slated to lift at 11.59pm on October 14, when the household visitor limit will be capped at five.

Outdoor gatherings will be limited to 25 people.

Pubs, restaurants and places of worship will be able to reopen with a maximum of 25 people or one person per four square metres inside.

Hairdressers and beauty services can have up to five clients at a time.

The ACT expects to hit an 80 per cent vaccination target for its population aged 12 and older next month and plans to ease restrictions further from October 29.
