A spokesperson for Highways England said: 'The M1 in Derbyshire is closed southbound between junction 29 (Mansfield north) and junction 28 (Matlock) due to a coach fire.

'Emergency services including Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have been in attendance. National Highways have deployed resources to assist with traffic management.

'As a result of the fire, a significant amount of diesel has spilt across the carriageway. The spillage has damaged the road surface, and all 4 lanes will require full resurfacing.
