Boy, 15, appears in court accused of murdering 'caring and kind' teenager

A 15-year-old boy has been remanded into custody accused of murdering a teenager.

The youth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared before Cheltenham Youth Court accused of murdering 17-year-old Joshua Hall on April 16 at Cam sports club in Dursley, Gloucestershire.

He was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon, namely a knife.

The defendant, who was represented by solicitor Ian Kelcey, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during a short hearing.

May Li, prosecuting, told the court the two charges were linked and invited them both to be sent to the crown court.

'He cannot apply for bail at this stage, and I would invite you to remand him into custody,' she said.

District Judge Nicholas Wattam remanded the youth into custody and ordered him to appear before Gloucester Crown Court on April 21.

'Your case is to go to the crown court to be dealt with on April 21. The law states I cannot consider a bail application at this stage,' he said.

Joshua died in hospital hours after being stabbed in the stomach.

In a statement, his family said: 'On Friday 16 at 1.25pm our life changed forever. Our beautiful, charming, caring and kind soul Joshua Hall was hurt beyond recovery.

'We want Josh to be remembered not for this senseless act but for the love he brought to life.

'The essence of Josh is impossible to capture because of how special he was.

'He helped people in their darkest hours and their lives are better because of his presence. He always had a smile for everyone and was cheeky and compassionate.

'He leaves behind his mum Kirsty, his dad Michael and his little brother Elijah.

'Everyone who knows Joshua will feel his loss, however, it's of the utmost to his family that he is remembered with nothing but love.

'Josh's family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has left flowers, cards, kind words and beautiful memories of our son.

'Please continue to think of Josh and remember his smile.'

A police spokesperson said yesterday that a 20-year-old man and a second 15-year-old boy who were held on suspicion of murder have been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
