America's bloody month of gun violence: At least 38 have been killed in mass shootings since March

A gunman shot eight people dead and injured several others at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis before taking his own life on Thursday night, the latest in a spate of gun attacks in the last month.

The rampage brings the total fatalities from mass shootings in the US since the beginning of March to 38.  

It comes as US President Joe Biden warned over an 'epidemic' of gun violence sweeping across the country.

He told reporters 'it has to stop' after talking about separate shootings in Boulder, Colorado, and Atlanta, Georgia, which took place less than a week apart in March and claimed the lives of 18 people.  

Indianapolis, IN, April 15 

At least eight people were killed and multiple others injured after a gunman went on a rampage with an assault rifle at a FedEx warehouse near Indianapolis Airport before shooting himself dead. 

At least four people were hospitalized, including one person with critical injuries, police said in the early hours of April 16. 

Two others were treated at the scene and released. No law enforcement officers were injured.  

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Officer Genae Cook tolder reporters police officers came in contact with an active shooter after they were called shortly after 11pm.

The male gunman is understood to have taken his own life, and is the ninth confirmed death from the incident. Police reported finding the alleged shooter's body at 11:23pm local time.  

It was not immediately clear what the gunman's motive was.

Rock Hill, SC, April 7

Six people were shot dead by former NFL-player Phillip Adams, 32, on April 7. 

The victims included a prominent South Carolina doctor Dr Robert Lesslie, his wife Barbara, and their two grandchildren, 9-year-old Adah and 5-year-old Noah.

One air conditioning technician, James Lewis, 38, was also killed in the attack. His colleague Robert Shook, 38, survived the initial attack but later died from his wounds in hospital. 

Adams, who was reportedly being treated by Dr Lesslie for injuries sustained while playing football, later killed himself.   

His brain is now being examined for possible degenerative disease that has been shown to cause violent mood swings and other cognitive disorders in some athletes and members of the military.

Orange, California, March 31

Four people, including a nine-year-old boy, were allegedly gunned down by Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzalez in an office complex in Orange, California on March 31.   

The victims, who were all known to Gonzalez, were named as Luis Tovar, 50, Genevieve Raygoza, 28, Leticia Solis, and Matthew Farias, 9. 

Farias reportedly died in the arms of his mother, Blanca Tamayo, who was critically wounded by survived the attack. His father later said Farias had died while trying to protect his mother. 

Gonzalez, 44, from Fullerton, who arrived at the site in a rental car and had been living in a hotel, was wounded by police and was taken to hospital. 

He was later charged with four counts of murder and one of attempted murder over the attack.

Boulder, Colorado, March 22 

Ten people were shot dead in the King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, on March 22. 

Ahmad Alissa, 21,  was arrested by police inside the supermarket after a brief shootout, where he was shot in the leg. 

He had removed all clothing except shorts before being taken into custody but a rifle, a green tactical vest and a handgun were recovered inside the grocery store. 

Alissa was remanded in custody by police and charged with ten counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.   

Friends and family say the shooter was a 'paranoid loner' who had never had a girlfriend and was bullied in school over his Syrian heritage. 

His attorneys have claimed he was mentally ill at the time of the attack.

Atlanta, Georgia, March 16  

Eight people were gunned down in a series of attacks on three Atlanta spas on March 16.  

Robert Aaron Long, 21, allegedly carried out the shootings and then went on the run.

He was driving to Florida, allegedly to target porn-industry locations, when he was arrested by police who rammed his car off the road 150 miles south of Atlanta. 

Six of the victims were Asian women and police said he carried out the massacre in retaliation for his sex addiction. Long was arrested and charged with eight counts of murder.

TEXAS, April 8, 2021 - A gunman opened fire at the cabinet-making plant in Texas where he worked, killing one person and wounding six others before he was taken into custody. 

CALIFORNIA, March 31, 2021 - Four people were killed, one of them a child, in a shooting at an office building in suburban Los Angeles before the suspect, wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police, was taken into custody.

COLORADO, March 22, 2021 - A mass shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado left 10 people dead, including a police officer. 

ATLANTA, March 16, 2021 - Eight people, including six women of Asian descent, were shot dead in a string of attacks at day spas in and around Atlanta, and a man suspected of carrying out the shootings was arrested in southern Georgia.

GREENVILLE, July 5, 2020 - Ten people were shot in a Greenville, South Carolina, nightclub in an outburst of suspected gang-related violence that killed two people and critically injured two others, police said.

MILWAUKEE, Feb 26, 2020- A gunman opened fire at the Molson Coors Beverage Co brewing complex in Milwaukee, killing five co-workers before he was found dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

ILLINOIS, Feb. 15, 2019 - Gary Martin, 45, opened fire at an Illinois factory after receiving notice of termination from his job there, killing five workers and wounding five policemen before he was slain by police.

EL PASO, Aug. 3, 2019 - A man fatally shot 22 people at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas. A statement, believed to have been written by the suspect, called the attack "a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas." Authorities arrested the shooter.

DAYTON, Aug. 4, 2019 - A gunman dressed in body armor opened fire in downtown Dayton, Ohio, killing nine people including his sister and wounding 27 others. Police killed the shooter.

VIRGINIA BEACH, May 31, 2019 - A disgruntled public utility employee opened fire with a handgun on co-workers at a municipal building in Virginia, killing 12 people and wounding at least four before he was fatally shot by police.

THOUSAND OAKS, Nov. 7, 2018 - A former Marine combat veteran killed 12 people in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. He then killed himself.

TREE OF LIFE, Oct. 27, 2018 - A gunman burst into the Tree of Life synagogue near Pittsburgh with a semi-automatic rifle and three handguns as he fired on congregants gathered for a Sabbath service, killing 11.

SANTA FE, Texas, May 18, 2018 - A 17-year-old student dressed in a trench coat and armed with a shotgun and pistol opened fire at his high school outside Houston, killing nine students and a teacher, before surrendering to officers.

NEWTOWN, Dec. 14, 2012 - A heavily armed gunman killed 26 people, including 20 children from five- to 10-years old, in a rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

AURORA, July 20, 2012 - A masked gunman killed 12 people and wounded 70 others at a cinema in Aurora, Colorado. He received multiple life sentences.
