A drunk driver has crashed his luxury Mercedes into a Melbourne tram barrier on Thursday morning.

A 33-year-old man was driving his Mercedes AMG that retails for around $855,000, along Nicholson Street when he smashed into a tram stop barrier near Elgin Street at around 12.45am.
