Alleged fraudster granted NLe 50,000 bail

Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No. 1 has granted fifty thousand Leones bail (NLe50, 000) with a surety in like sum to Fuad Sankoh, ordering that, the surety should be employed in a  recognised institution in Sierra Leone and that bail should be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The accused appeared before the court on two count charges of obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

It was alleged that, the accused, on diverse dates between the 1st  and 31st  August, 2022, in Makeni, Northern Province of Sierra Leone, defrauded  and obtained  fifteen thousand, nine hundred Leones (Le Leones(Le15,900) from Patricia Faya by falsely pretending that he would facilitate her travelling to Canada and secure her a job, knowing same to be false.

Count two states that the accused, on the same date and place, obtained four thousand Leones Le4,000 from Osman Santos Tarawally by falsely pretending that he would facilitate his travel to Canada for job opportunities, knowing same to be false .

Counsel representing the accused, A .R Kargbo, applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused, citing section 79 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965.

Lawyer Kargbo assured the Bench that, the accused is a Sierra Leonean, who resides in in Freetown and would not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

 He said his client has fixed abode (residence), adding that he has reliable sureties willing and ready to enter into his cognisance.

Responding, Magistrate Ngegba granted the aforesaid amount and adjourned the matter to 17 October 2022.
