Stranger Things Themed Cafe Open in Tokyo

Themed cafe can be enjoyed by the fans of the Netflix horror movie “Stranger Things” they can eat demonic pasta and rock out to retro 1980’s tunes.

In response to intense demand, the shop, a collaboration with the neighborhood restaurant chain Pronto Corp, has extended its term in Tokyo’s chic Shibuya neighborhood by several months. Since the fourth season of “Stranger Things” was released in May, it has continued to rank among the top 10 shows on the streamer in Japan.

According to the article of CNN, the inside of Hawkins, Indiana, a fictional American town with a dark-mirror underworld that the preteen protagonists refer to as the “Upside Down,” features reproductions of the show’s stores and sets. Visitors can also pose for photos with the show’s famous Demogorgon monster while songs from the show, such as Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” play in the background.

The report mentioned that diners can eat delicacies inspired by the program, such as squid-ink pasta fashioned in the shape of the monster’s head or waffles coveted by psychically powered star character Eleven. To decrease the possibility of COVID-19 spreading, the cafe requires visitors to make a reservation and only roughly 20 people are permitted inside every hour.

“Every day at midnight, I have been trying to book a table on my phone,” 29-year-old mother Kimiko Nakae, an avid fan of the said series.

“Finally there’s an opening today because someone had canceled the reservation.” she added.

Tokyo has a long history of themed cafés and restaurants, with anything from exotic animals and ninja waiters to vampire-inspired food.

But the industry has been severely impacted by the pandemic, much like many tourist-oriented industries. The Lockup, a series of spooky prison restaurants, shuttered its final site this month after a 23-year existence. It followed in the footsteps of the infamous Robot Restaurant, a garish music and dance extravaganza in Kabukicho’s red-light district, which closed in March 2020.
