Lea Salonga Posts Heartfelt Tribute To Cherie Gil

LEA SALONGA – Multiple award-winning actress and singer Lea Salonga took to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute to late actress Cherie Gil.

The entertainment industry is now mourning the passing of veteran actress Cherie Gil. The sad news was confirmed by her nephew Sid Lucero.

The ‘La Primera Contravida’ died due to cancer of the reproductive system, in New York City, this Friday, August 5. The late actress is from the famous Eigenmann showbiz clan.

Cherie Gil She is the daughter of actors Eddie Mesa Rosemarie Gil and. She is the sister of actors Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil (who passed away in 2014). Besides Sid, the actress’ nieces and nephews are Gabby Eigenmann, Ryan Eigenmann, Max Eigenmann, and Andi Eigenmann.

Cherie’s line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard, copycat!” became iconic. It is from her confrontation scene with Kapamilya singer-actress Sharon Cuneta in the movie “Bituing Walang Ningning” (1985). Sharon penned a very emotional tribute for her recently.

Aside from the Megastar, several celebrities also took to their social media accounts to pay tribute to the veteran actress. Among them were Mikee Cojuangco, Vilma Santos, Dina Bonnevie, and Alessandra de Rossi.

Just recently, Lea Salonga took to her Instagram account to pay tribute to Cherie Gil. According to the singer-actress, she was able to watch Gil in two shows, where she disappeared into her roles and displayed a strong yet human presence onstage.

The singer added that the late actress was one of a kind and a person she will never forget. Lots of netizens expressed their appreciation for Salonga’s IG post including Michael de Mesa.

“Two of the shows I got to see her in. How she disappeared into whatever role (or as in the case of Angels in America, roles) she played. How her presence was so strong, and yet so human. But she shone the brightest when she was just being herself. You were one of a kind, Cherie, and I’ll never forget you,” she wrote.
