LUCENA CITY––Police recovered Wednesday, P6.8 million worth of shabu (crystal meth), while an alleged drug pusher was killed Thursday, June 9, in a buy-bust operation that ended in an alleged armed encounter in Rizal province.

Police attending to a checkpoint in Barangay Pinugay in Baras town noticed around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday that the approaching motorcycle rider seemed alarmed about the presence of law enforcers. The still-unidentified motorcyclist threw a bag in the grassy area, left his vehicle, and escaped, the Calabarzon police reported.

The police recovered the bag that reportedly contained a box of tea with a white crystalline substance suspected as shabu weighing one kilo and worth P6.8 million.

Authorities also recovered one Honda Click motorcycle with plate number 638TZJ that was left behind by the rider.

The police are investigating the identity of the motorcycle rider.

In Taytay town, an alleged drug pusher, identified by his alias “Tonton,” was killed at 1:40 a.m. Thursday in a drug sting that ended in an alleged armed encounter in Barangay Sta. Ana.

A report said the suspect sensed that he was dealing with an undercover cop during the transaction, pulled out a gun of still unknown caliber, and shot at the team of anti-illegal drugs operatives but missed his targets. The police returned fire and hit the suspect, who died on the spot.

In Quezon province, Col. Joel Villanueva, Quezon police chief, reported that anti-illegal drugs operatives in Tiaong town busted an alleged shabu peddler.

The suspect, Roniel Aguila, was found with four plastic sachets of meth with a street value of P126,684 in a sting operation at 9 p.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Ayusan 1.

The police said the suspect, a “high-value individual” (HVI) in the illegal drug trade and member of a drug group, was also the alleged primary suspect in the killing on March 22 of Michael Garcia.

In Lucena, Lt. Col. Reynaldo Reyes, city police chief, said drug enforcers arrested at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Percival Werble, 29, after he sold shabu to a police agent in Barangay Dalahican.

The suspect yielded five sachets of crystal meth with a street value of P51,816. He was found carrying an undocumented caliber .9mm pistol with six bullets.

The suspects face charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Werble will also be charged with another case for illegal firearm.
