President-Elect Bongbong Marcos Speaks on Philippines-China Relationship

BONGBONG MARCOS – The President-Elect called China the “strongest partner” of the Philippines and cited that his mother is Beijing’s champion.

Former senator and now president-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to sit as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines at noon on June 30, 2022. His inauguration will be held at the Philippine National Museum in Manila.

Currently, preparations are underway for the inauguration of the elected president. He garnered 31 million votes with a 16-million vote lead from his closest rival during the Elections 2022. The former Senator ran under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

With the results showing a landslide victory, several national leaders have already congratulated Marcos Jr. even prior to his proclamation as the 2022 Presidential Election winner. The joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives raised the hands of Marcos Jr. as the election winner last May 25.

Recently, president-elect Bongbong Marcos attended an awarding ceremony of the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (ACPU). Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during the said event, the president-elect called China the “strongest partner” of the Philippines.

Furthermore, Marcos Jr. also expressed that Beijing “cannot find a greater champion” than his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos. She is one of the ACPU Hall of Fame awardees in 2021. Annually, the group honors Filipinos who contributed to the strengthening of Manila-Beijing relationship.

Based on the report, during the said event, Marcos Jr. said that the country’s alliances with other nations will keep the stability of PH’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. He also expressed that he will maintain the independent foreign policy of the outgoing administration.

“This is what we feel is best in the national interest and I feel it is to be advantageous not only to our friends in China but to all our friends around the world,” the incoming president said.
