Myanmar earns 384 mln USD from garment exports in April

YANGON, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar earned 384 million U.S. dollars from the exports of garments manufactured under the cut-make-pack (CMP) system in April this year, the state media citing the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association reported on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country exported garments worth 200 million dollars through land borders, while it shipped the goods worth 184 million dollars via sea routes, the report said.

Myanmar exported the garment to China, Thailand and European countries, it said.

The investment in Myanmar's CMP garment sector comes from China, Thailand, South Korea and Japan. China is the largest foreign investor in Myanmar's garment sector, it said.

Myanmar has more than 700 factories manufacturing bags, sports suits, sports shoes and socks. Of them, 505 are garment factories and 48 are footwear factories, it said.

Myanmar's garment industry has created more than 100,000 job opportunities for local people, it said.

Myanmar earned more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars from the exports of CMP garments during the 2022-23 fiscal year, official figures showed.
