In celebration of National Pigs in Blankets Day, online butcher Farmison & Co hosted a competition to find the next bacon fuelled recipe for their new Pigs in Blankets range and have now created something we didn’t know we needed: Chocolate Truffle flavoured pigs in blankets.

The clever clogs behind the recipe, Gary Day, a self-confessed foodie and truffle lover from Cambridge, has been rewarded with a £500 Christmas Dinner for him and his family courtesy of Farmison & Co.

Executive Development Chef Jeff Baker at Farmison & Co delved into why the dessert-inspired piggies stole the spotlight. He said: “You might be perplexed at the thought of differing from our traditional porky and salty side dish, but we think the “You might be perplexed at the thought of differing from our traditional porky and salty side dish, but we think the combination of rich, savoury venison, bittersweet chocolate and sharp berries is nothing short of a Christmas miracle. We have worked hard to get the final balance of flavours just right. As meat masters, we’re excited to step into the shoes of a chocolatier and experiment with the sweeter side of food creation!”

Though the Chocolate Truffle pigs in blankets stole the show, amongst the entries were some fascinating concoctions

Runner Up: Bloody Mary and Breakfast Pigs in Blankets (pork, black pudding, tomato and chilli, vodka)

Third Place : Peachy Piggies (pork, camembert cheese, peach chutney, smoked bacon)

The Chocolate Truffle pigs in blankets are available for delivery from National Pigs in Blankets Day (5th of December) and throughout selected dates in December here.
