WTA roundup: Madison Keys upsets top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in Berlin

American Madison Keys recorded 31 winners against 17 unforced errors while notching a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 upset of top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus on Tuesday in the second round of the Bett1Open in Berlin.

Keys served eight aces while beating a Top 5 player for the eighth time in her career. Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova and France's Alize Cornet also delivered upsets reach the quarterfinals.

Alexandrova recorded a 6-4, 7-5 triumph of second-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine, and Cornet was a 7-6 (2), 7-5 winner over third-seeded Bianca Andreescu of Canada. No. 5 Belinda Bencic of Switzerland avoided an upset while knocking off Croatia's Petra Martic 6-3. 6-4.

Viking Classic Birmingham

Former World No. 9 CoCo Vandeweghe continued her comeback from hand surgery by knocking off Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at Birmingham, England.

The American Vandeweghe served 10 aces to reach the quarterfinals against Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic. The eighth-seeded Bouzkova rolled to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Caroline Garcia of France.

Third-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia moved on with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Italy's Camila Giorgi, and England's Heather Watson was leading 5-2 in the opening set when China's Shuai Zhang retired due to a leg injury. Also, Kristina Mladenovic upset No. 7 seeded Fiona Ferro 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a matchup of French players to reach the round of 16.
