A major police investigation has been launched after a young woman was allegedly raped during an early morning incident in Aberdeen.

Officers have locked down Bon Accord Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen after being called to reports of a serious sexual assault.

The alleged incident is understood to have taken place at around 3.30am on Sunday September 26 and involved a 29-year-old woman.

Investigators remain at the scene where officers have been pictured searching for evidence in the grass.

Police Scotland have confirmed that a 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection however they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A force spokesperson said: “A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the serious sexual assault of a 29-year-old woman which happened around 3.30am at Bon Accord Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police via 101, quoting incident 0765 of 26 September.”
