If there's one thing Brits love more than a good cuppa, it's a full English breakfast.

And when it comes to this breakfast of kings, the contents are pretty consistent.

You've got bacon, sausages, egg, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast, a hash brown or two and possibly if you're so inclined, black pudding.

But one woman has divided the internet after sharing a snap of her plate, which contained a rather unexpected item.

The home cook, known only as Jessica M, decided to add a portion of peas to her breakfast.

Her snap was shared on the popular Twitter account, Rate My Plate and it's fair to say people had a lot of thoughts.

Some thought the addition of peas was 'criminal'

The tweet garnered 1,000 likes and hundreds of retweets.

A good number of people were firmly against the addition of peas.

One person wrote: "It's a criminal offence to consume peas before noon.

"PS. Especially when you have beans. Beans are your 'morning pea'."

Even Birds Eye got involved

Another commented: "Peas and beans on the same plate? For Breakfast? You should be on a register for this."

A third Twitter user was very unforgiving, saying: "Peas on a breakfast commands a 10 year sentence in a hard labour camp and a further two years for aggravating my OCD."

Someone else replied: "Peas have no place on that plate."

A different person described the breakfast as "sacrilege".

Even Birds Eye, who are known for selling bags of frozen peas, got involved in the debate.

They posted: "We admit that peas in an English breakfast is a bit rogue, but we also admire the attempt at making it healthy."

Their followers responded to the plate in a much more positive way.

"Give peas a chance," suggested one person.

A second added: "The peas are the least of the problem here."
