A woman has died after crashing into a parked car in Southport.

The fatal collision took place on Burnley Road at around 3.10pm on Thursday (September 23).

Police received a report that a blue Honda Jazz was in collision with a parked vehicle.

The driver, female in her 80s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but has since sadly passed away.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Road closures were implemented by police but has since been lifted.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Emergency services were in attendance in Southport following a fatal collision yesterday afternoon (Thursday 23 September).

"At around 3.10pm we received a report that a blue Honda Jazz was in collision with a parked vehicle on Burnley Road.

"The driver, female in her 80s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

"She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but has since sadly passed away.

"Her next of kin have been informed."
