Woman, 60, killed in Times Square by a falling piece of building facade

A WOMAN was killed after being struck by a piece of building facade that fell off a tower near Times Square.

Erica Tishman, 60, was walking along 49th Street near Seventh Avenue at around 10:45am when she was hit by falling debris in Midtown Manhattan, police told the New York Post.

The architect was found lying on the sidewalk with head trauma and cops said she was pronounced dead at the scene, CBS local reports.

Tishman was a vice president at Zubatkin Owner Representation LLC, a project management company headquartered on West 52nd Street, according to the firm's website.

Representatives at the firm didn't respond to a request for comment from Sun Online.

The property was cited for "failure to maintain exterior building facade and appurtenances" in April, according to city building records obtained by the Post.

Building inspectors found "damaged terra cotta at areas above 15th floor in several locations which poses a falling hazard for pedestrians," records show.

729 Acquisition LLC, the building's owners, didn't respond to a request for comment from Sun Online.
