Wirral's fortnightly garden waste collections set to resume

FORTNIGHTLY garden waste collections are set to resume in Wirral later this month, following disruption due to Coronavirus.

The move, starting from Tuesday June 16, comes as staff numbers at Biffa - Wirral Council's waste collection contractor - begin to return to normal after many had to self-isolate or shield.

The service, when suspended in April/May this year as lockdown began, will continue to collect brown bins for existing customers until August 24 without needing to subscribe again.

Current subscribers will receive all the collections they paid for before lockdown began.

For those who wish to sign up for the next collection year, August 25 2020 – May 31 2021, the subscription window will open in July.

Current subscribers will be able to check their next collection date on the council website from June 12, when the four-weekly collection service ends.

If you had a collection between May 19-29, your next collection will be on your usual day, week commencing June 15.

If you had a collection between June 1-12, your next collection will be on your usual day, week commencing June 22.

Mike Cockburn, lead commissioner for environment at Wirral Council said: “We know it’s been hard on residents having to hold onto their garden waste, especially while the weather has been nice, so thank you to all of our subscribers for playing your part.

“Biffa’s hard-working collection crews deserve massive credit here too.

"They've worked through difficult circumstances to make sure not only that green and grey bins are collected without disruption, but also to bring back garden waste collections as quickly as they could.”
