Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith believe that opening up about the details of their private love lives was the "best move for their family".
Jada, 48, said her marriage to actor Will, 51, was over as she spilled all on her "entanglement" with love rival August Alsina.
The married couple have addressed the controversy for the first time in a Red Table Talk after their marriage hit headlines amid rumours of a fling.
Singer August, 27, alleged he was given permission to have an affair with Jada by her Hollywood actor star hubby.
Jada and Will decided to face the marriage rumours together on Red Table Talk.
With the face-to-face chat going viral and raising many eyebrows among fans, the pair reportedly are happy that they shared the dynamics of their marriage with the world.
Sources have now said the pair feel that this "wouldn't even be a story" if they weren't a high profile couple.
A source told Us Weekly : "They are a very vulnerable and open pair, and they felt this was the best move for their family."
The source added: "This wouldn't even be a story if they weren't famous – it’s a normal situation – break up, get back together."
Mirror Online has contacted Will and Jada's reps for comment.
In the Red Table Talk chat, Jada clarified that her husband didn't have to give the new love rival permission because they were over - almost "indefinitely".
She said: "As time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement [with August]. You giving permission only circumstance is myself.
"August was probably trying to communicate, I could see how he would perceive it as permission as we were separated amicably. He wanted to make it clear he's not a home wrecker. Which he's not."
Jada poured out her heartbreak over her split from Will as she grieved what she thought was the end of their marriage while she romanced August.
The mother-of-two said she was "in a lot of pain" and "broken" as her marriage crumbled.
She said: "I was in a lot of pain. I was broken."
Jada embarked on a whirlwind romance four to four and a half years ago with August when she was going through "difficult times" with Will.
She said: "I wanted to feel good. It had been so long since I felt good. It was really a joy to just help heal somebody."
