A former flight attendant reveals why you shouldn't take your shoes off during a flight. Beach sandals are absolutely no good.
Tony Kuna, who worked as a flight attendant, explained that there could be problems if there was an emergency during the flight.
He wrote on his Quora:
"In emergencies, debris and nasty ground of all kinds can block the exit or the way out of the aircraft."
He continues: Descend down a passage covered in broken glass, fire, and metal shards.
"Like John McClane in Die Hard, but worse."
World Christine Negroni, who published a book about one of the most mysterious air crashes in America, agrees.
She previously said:
"If you escape from an aircraft, the floor can be very hot, cold, oily, catch fire, or turn into a cornfield. You don't have to be barefoot.
She added that passengers should skip sandals or flip-flops for this reason and choose athletic or hard shoes during the flight.
Bare feet are dangerous in an emergency. It's just as bad as it is unhygienic - flight attendant Amanda Preva, who runs the aviation column on Flyer Talk,, says it's as uncomfortable as a passenger going to the bathroom without shoes on.
She said: Wear shoes when getting up to use the restroom.
