KIM Kardashian celebrated her 40th birthday over an extended period of time, most notably on a "private island".
The exact location of the island has been kept secret so far.
Why is Kim Kardashian trending?
Kim Kardashian turned 40 years old on October 21, 2020.
She celebrated on a private island with a group of family and friends that she made quarantine for two weeks prior to the trip.
Since sharing snaps from her 40th celebrations people have called her out for being tone-deaf.
Kim called her birthday experience "normal", which has been deemed majorly out of touch.
On Twitter she posted:
"Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.
"After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.
"We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more.
"I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40"
What are some of the Kim Kardashian birthday memes?
Many on social media have reacted by taking Kim's caption about things being "normal" and then reposting it with a new image.
The memes that have been posted by fans and organisations include recognisable cultural references, such as Game of Thrones’ The Red Wedding episode.
Even other celebrities have parodied the Tweet, including Jack Whitehall.
These are just a selection of the ones doing the rounds on Twitter:
What are fans saying about Kim Kardashian's tweets?
At a time when many have been forced to cancel plans with loved ones due to coronavirus, this display of wealth and privilege hasn't been well received.
One person replied to Kim's Tweets with: "private island and normal in the same sentence" followed by a skull emoji.
Someone added: "I don’t mind that they went on this trip but the audacity to post it for all to see is so out of touch with reality. The rich really don’t have sympathy for the poor and don’t have the common sense to see how shoving it in people’s faces is bad."
Reactions have been mixed though, with some coming to Kim's defense.
One fan Tweeted: "They earned THEIR life style! We can’t judge . If u don’t like it unfollow!"
"I say good for you. If I had the means, I’d probably do the same. People criticizing you gave you the fame and the means to live a privileged life. Screw ‘em," another said.
