Who is Symone Sanders?

A FORMER top aide for Vice President Kamala Harris has moved on to a new role that allows her to speak for herself instead of other people.

After leaving the White House, Symone Sanders joined MSNBC for a new talk show titled Symone.

Who is Symone Sanders?

Born December 10, 1989, Sanders, 32, is known as an American political strategist, commentator, author, and host.

She first rose to fame after serving as the national press secretary for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders during his 2016 presidential campaign.

After leaving his campaign, she joined CNN as a strategist and political commentator.

However, in 2020, Sanders returned for another White House run as the senior advisor for Joe Biden's presidential campaign, later being named chief spokesperson and a senior advisor for Vice President Kamala Harris.

She is also a published author of the memoir, No, You Shut Up.

Why did Symone leave the White House?

Sanders officially announced her departure from the White House in a letter to her colleagues shared on December 1, 2021.

She thanked Vice President Harris and chief of staff Tina Flournoy, writing: “I'm so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been.

"I'm grateful for Tina and her leadership and her confidence as well.

“Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you."

While it is still unclear what prompted her decision to leave the White House, Anita Dunn, a former top Biden aide, alluded in an interview with CNN that Sanders “needed a break,” saying: " Symone has been working at the highest levels and in an extraordinarily intense environment for three years for Joe Biden and now also for Vice President Harris.

"When you look at the three years, two on the campaign, one in the White House, nobody can question her decision that she needs a break and it's time to move on. And she'll always be a member of the Biden-Harris family."

How can I watch Symone's new show?

In May 2022, Sanders launched her self-titled talk show that is about “news you need to know from politics to pop culture.”

While her ratings were questionable, the former White House aid is optimistic that the show will be a success.

“We are not just going to do D.C., we are going to do stories of interest to you, we are going to get into conversations you and your friends are having, the group chats you are having,” Sanders said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“For a long time you did not see people that looked like me on television. I am talking about Black women. I am talking about young people. I definitely haven’t seen any young bald Black women from the midwest,” she continued.

“There is no one who is doing what I am setting out to do. There is no one on television with my experience and my insight, I intimately know the current president of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, and some of the biggest names here in politics.”

Symone can be watched live on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 4pm EST on MSNBC.

The show can also be streamed through Peacock.
