A South Scotland MSP is to help lead scrutiny of the Scottish Government in its response to Covid.

Conservative Brian Whittle has been appointed to the new COVID-19 recovery committee.

The committee will examine how the government proposes to help Scotland recover and rebuild from the effects of the pandemic as well as dealing with any legislation that relates to the country’s response to Covid.

More than 900 deaths of people in Ayrshire have been linked to Covid since the start of the health crisis in March 2020.

Whittle – who has previously been a member of the health & sport committee and the public petitions committee – said: "I’m pleased to be appointed to the COVID-19 recovery committee.

"The decisions made by parliament and the Scottish Government as we begin the process of recovering from the effects of the pandemic will set the course of Scotland’s future for years to come.
