When is the House of the Dragon set? How it falls into the Game of Thrones timeline

New {9​ ​The excitement for} The House of the Dragons prequel series Game of Thrones is evident, less than two weeks away from the TV show's UK debut.

Matt Smith (Prince Demon Targaryen), Emma Darcy (Princess Rainilla Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Lady Aricent Hightower), Rhys Ifans (Sir Otto Hightower), Paddy Considine (King Viserys I Targaryen), this is certainly understandable. The two trailers released for the show so far have hinted at relying on a number of GoT themes, including political infighting and infidelity, but the kind of disappointing season 8 of the HBO hit faced. I hope it stays away from the climax.

New House of the Dragons When is the set of the

new House of the Dragons series set about 200 years before the Game of Thrones timeline, typically set in George R. R. Martin's Fire & Follow Brad's events. More specifically, it focuses on the events of the civil war that erupted in House Targaryen, and eventually diminution of it. At its peak, Viserys I Targaryen (played by Paddy Considine) rules over the fertile land. But as the rulers of the Seven Kingdoms plot their succession from the Iron Throne, a civil war erupts between Targaryens and Targaryens, and more importantly, dragons against dragons.

With Daenerys and Viserys living in exile, the brutal civil war kicks off with the first season of Game of Thrones and is one of the reasons House Targaryen has declined so much. It's unclear how strictly the new HBO series will stick to this timeline, and the fact that certain characters are cast in both younger and older versions suggests there will be quite a few timeline jumps.

There is speculation the series will attempt to address when Aegon Targaryen first arrives in Westeros to conquer the Seven Kingdoms, but this will be addressed in a later series. There is a possibility. Co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik said of the setting choices for the latest series:
