What's occurin'? Just the return of Gavin and Stacey, that's what!

Fans of the BBC sitcom have been beside themselves for months after it was announced that James Corden and Ruth Jones had put pen to paper once again and created a Christmas special for the much-loved series.

The duo, who also portray Neil 'Smithy' Smith and Nessa Jenkins in the sitcom, revealed the news back in May with a simple tweet that set social media alight.

And since, different stars have been dropping hints as to what's to come. From  Larry Lamb, who played Gavin's dad Mick saying that he cried over the "poignant" script to James himself saying they wanted it to be a "nostalgic joy-bomb."

It's been 10 whole years since we left parents-to-be Gavin and Stacey as well as Smithy and Nessa sat on the Barry Island beach side contemplating what's next - which aired on New Years Day and was watched by more than 10 million people.

The gang are Christmas ready

But now, it's time to find out as the Shipman-West clan are back together for Christmas. The special episode will air for a whole hour from 8.30pm on BBC One on December 25.

Whilst the plot is being kept under wraps, teasers have been released much to fans delight.

In one, Uncle Bryn is having a meltdown in the kitchen as he tells Stacey: "Would you ever so kindly inform everyone that dinner will be slightly delayed."

It's not looking good for Bryn

And in a further tease, the Beeb have released a full, spoiler-free synopsis as follows: "It's been ten years since we last went to Billericay to spend Christmas with the Shipmans and the Wests.

"This year we're off to Wales for the festivities, where Bryn (Rob Brydon) is cooking dinner for over thirteen people. Understandably he’s tense.

"Pam (Alison Steadman) would secretly prefer to spend Christmas in Essex as she finds Gwen's (Melanie Walters) house a bit lacking.

"But the deal has always been that they alternate every year, and this time it's the turn of the Wests to host Christmas with everyone under one small roof.

"For Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page), parenthood continues to present them with several challenges, their 'baby' now being ten."

It looks like it'll be a fun Christmas in Wales

It continues: "Smithy (James Corden), too, continues to commit to his fatherly role, making the journey to Barry at weekends and every second Wednesday to see twelve-year-old Neil the Baby.

"Nessa (Ruth Jones) on the other hand adopts her own brand of Nessa-style mothering whilst Pam, Mick (Larry Lamb) and Gwen have become the epitome of doting grandparents."

And the final note: "On Christmas Eve, Dawn (Julia Davis) makes a shocking discovery about Pete (Adrian Scarborough) that jeopardizes their marriage (again) and a visit to the pub that night is an eye opener in more ways than one."
