Jordan Pickford has certainly come into form at the right time for club and country in recent weeks.
At times last season, his place for both Everton and England was called into question after a number of high-profile mistakes.
But after a spell on the sidelines through injury back in March, he’s certainly returned to top form.
Having shone for England at his previous two major finals appearances, emerging as a penalty shoot out hero at both the 2018 World Cup and 2019 UEFA Nations League, he has caught the eye again at Euro 2020.
Keeping two clean sheets from two appearances so far, he made an impressive save to deny Stephen O’Donnell to ensure the Three Lions claimed a share of the spoils against Scotland on Friday night, and caught the eye with his aggressive command of his box.
And that’s despite the ongoing uncertainty and confusion regarding the next Everton manager following Carlo Ancelotti’s shock departure to Real Madrid.

While Pickford has been picking up plaudits, he was on the receiving end of a tongue-lashing from former Blue John Stones against Croatia for his distribution, with the goalkeeper admitting his kicking hadn’t been accurate enough.
However, Southgate had no issues with his shot-stopper looking for the long ball on occasions despite Stones’ own issues with the tactic.
Considering Pickford is well-known for the quality of his distribution, his key attributes appear to make him a good fit to be first-choice for his seemingly-imminent new manager, Rafa Benitez.
Throughout his career, the Spaniard has liked his goalkeepers to be aggressive when commanding their penalty area and good with their feet, capable of acting as a last defender as well as launching counter-attacks.
Pickford certainly fits that bill and regardless of the identity of his new manager, Benitez or otherwise, will be looking to build on his impressive start to the tournament throughout the summer.
And while he might have had his critics in recent months, as England edge towards the knockout stages, he could find himself handed the opportunity to be the hero once again
