DISNEY Channel star Joshua Bassett broke his silence on ex-girlfriend Olivia Rodrigo.
The actor addressed rumors surrounding him and Rodrigo’s relationship, saying that “the hardest thing has been biting my tongue.”
What did Joshua Bassett say about Olivia Rodrigo?
Joshua Bassett, 20, dished to GQ about his former relationship with Disney star Olivia Rodrigo.
Bassett, who was linked to Rodrigo in 2019, finally spoke out about the rumors surrounding their split, saying: “People don’t know anything they’re talking about.
He claimed that “the hardest thing” has been “biting my tongue, in a lot of ways, but the reality is it’s kind of like a lost cause trying to talk about any of that stuff, and I refuse to feed into any of the bullshit, so I just don’t.”
"[Everyone] is asking me about Sabrina [Carpenter, another singer/actress with whom fans are eager to link Bassett] and Olivia.
"Why don't we focus on these women for who they are? Let's focus on the art that they're making and how great they are instead of their relationship to a boy."
What did Joshua Bassett say about Driver’s License?
Upon the release of Rodrigo’s song Driver’s License, which fans claim is about Bassett, the actor released his song, Lie Lie Lie a week later.
Bassett told GQ: “Two days after the song was released, I started getting very ill, and it kept getting worse.
"I thought it was, like, food poisoning or whatever. It got worse, it got worse, it got worse, it got worse.
He was hospitalized with “unimaginable pain” on the day Lie Lie Lie was released, adding: “I’m sure stress had a part in it”—but it turned out to be septic shock and heart failure: "[The doctors] told me that I had a 30% chance of survival.
“They told me that if I had not checked into the hospital within 12 hours, I would have been found [dead] in my apartment."
Amid the release of the songs, Bassett said he "didn't have any energy to be able to focus on anything but staying alive."
He claims that it’s an artist's job to “carry the emotional weight for other people.”
Adding: “That's what's so great about Olivia's album. She was able to articulate the feelings that she felt in a way that works on behalf of other people."
In relation to Rodrigo’s album, Sour, Bassett says that he has not “been able to face any of it” but that he “will get back to it.”
