West Lancashire is welcoming a selection of new councillors following the May 6 local elections.

One third of West Lancashire Borough Council’s seats were in contention in an election which was supposed to take place last year but was pushed back due Covid-19.

One seat was up for grabs across each of the council's 18 wards.

Prior to May 6, the Labour group was the ruling political entity with Ian Moran the leader of the council.

These are the West Lancs council wards where councillors have been elected to:

- Ashurst

- Aughton with Downholland

- Birch Green

- Burscough East

- Burscough West

- Derby

- Digmoor

- Halsall

- Knowsley

- Moorside

- Rufford

- Scott

- Skelmersdale North

- Skelmersdale South

- Tarleton

- Up Holland

- Wrightington

Voting opened at 7am on Thursday, May 6 with the last votes cast at 10pm on the same day.

Votes are set to be counted on Saturday afternoon with a final declaration around 7pm on Saturday.
