Rainfall totals of around 30mm could fall in an hour, with some locations potentially receiving around 50mm in up to three hours, although these will be fairly isolated, according to the forecast.

According to forecaster Becky Mitchell, in Wales the humidity isn't going away and thunderstorms are more likely to be Wednesday evening and Thursday daytime.

"Parts of Wales within that warning is in the east at the moment.

"There's quite a lot of uncertainty around when the thunderstorms might develop, although eastern parts of Wales are within the warning at the moment, it's quite a few days away, it's likely that could change over the next few days.

"We are catering for the risk of some heavy downpours and thundery showers Wednesday evening and Thursday.

"Over the next few days we have some reasonably high temperatures across Wales," she said.

The warning says there is a risk of some flooding which could in turn cause delays to trains and bus services. Spray and sudden flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures. Power cuts are also a possibility, according to the Met Office.
