Weather forecast today – ‘Danger to life’ warnings put in place as Britain is set to be battered by a FOOT of rain

THE Met Office has issued 'danger to life' warnings for parts of the country as Britain is set to be hit by nearly a foot of rain.

The worst-affected areas are expected to get up to 250mm (10in) of rain between today and Halloween on Saturday.

So far, this month is expected to be the wettest October in 150 years, as the Met Office has issued flood warnings for parts of the country.

The Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna told PA Media: “On Friday a band of low pressure will start to sweep in from the north-west, and will affect areas from Cornwall to Northern Ireland.

"There is likely to be incredibly heavy wind and rain in these regions, with gales of 50-60mph in exposed areas, perhaps leading to waves of around 10-11 metres. Around 40mm of rain could fall each day in some parts.”

  • WET AND WINDY WEEKEND

    THE Met Office has warned that there is more wet and windy weather to come over the weekend.

    It said there will be spells of heavy rain and strongs, bringing in 'unsettled' conditions.

    Warnings have also been issued that there might be flooding in the parts of the west, while remaining very windy for across the country on Saturday.

    Low pressure along with remnants of Hurricane Zeta will also bring in heavy douwnpour on Sunday.

    The weather will turn colder frim the north as the whole country expericnes a cold chills.

  • RAIN WARNINGS UNTIL SUNDAY

    Yellow rain warnings in place from today until Sunday – covering parts of north west England, Wales and western parts of Scotland.

    “Across the warning areas, rainfall totals of 30-40mm can be expected quite widely by the end of Friday, whilst over the hills and mountains of north Wales and Cumbria, where rain will be heaviest, more than 100mm is possible.”

  • RAIN AND STRONG WINDS TO LASH ON SUNDAY

    The Met Office warned Storm Zeta will bring strong winds and rain to the UK on Sunday.

    Forecast Grahame Madge said: “”It's a long way from our shores at the moment, but there is a concern over swell this weekend.

    “Coastal communities are advised to take care as waves will be big and more impactful than people are used to.”

    The Met Office has issued a weather warning for South West Scotland and Strathclyde.

    Residents should expect that there is a small chance of homes and businesses could be subjected to floods with damage to some properties.

    THE yellow warning issued for North West England, Wales, West Midlands and Yorkshire & Humber is expected to be in place from 9 am today through to 11:59 pm.

    Residents in the region have been warned to expect severe delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

    Some roads may end up being cut off by floods and driving could be made difficult by the bad weather conditions.

    There could also be power cuts which could affect some homes and businesses.

    THE Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for parts of the country.

    Areas cautioned include North West England, Wales, West Midland and Yorkshire & Humber.

    Long periods of rain could disrupt transportation.

    There is also a warning that homes and businesses could be flooded, which may cause damage to some buildings.

    Fast flowing and deep floodwarter is also possible in these areas, posing a danger to life, according to the BBC.
