Watch Arsenal star Mustafi’s ‘worst slide tackle ever’ as he spectacularly fails to get ball off Kane in Tottenham loss

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI'S odd challenge against Tottenham has been dubbed "worst slide tackle ever" by fans.

The error prone centre-half lunged at Harry Kane during Arsenal's 2-1 defeat at their North London rivals but he was nowhere near the ball or the player.

Kane was running with the ball down the left channel and as he broke into the box, Mustafi launched into a slide tackle despite being five yards away from the England ace.

Unsurprisingly Kane skipped past Mustafi and luckily for the German nothing came of it.

But supporters on Twitter were quick to slam the peculiar lunge and laid into the 28-year-old.

One wrote: "Mustafi just did the worst slide tackle I’ve ever seen in my life."

Another tweeted: "That's probably the worst attempt at a tackle I've ever seen from Mustafi."

And another said: "Mustafi with the worst slide tackle attempt I think I’ve ever seen."

Even Labour MP David Lammy chipped in and hilariously quipped: "Mustafi eyesight second only to Dominic Cummings. #TOTARS."

Despite this latest gaffe, Mustafi has significantly improved under Mikel Arteta and is likely to have earned himself a new contract.

The German defender has been testing Gunners fans' patience virtually from the day he was signed by Arsene Wenger back in 2016.

Yet just when they were preparing to cast him into the pit of eternal damnation, it seems Mustafi has finally seen the error of his ways.

And suddenly all the Arsenal chat is about handing their prodigal son a new Emirates contract.

For the past three summers Mustafi appeared to be on his way out as first Wenger and then Unai Emery opened the door to his departure.

Yet no one was prepared to pay even a fraction of the £34.85million which Arsenal had shelled out to buy the enigmatic defender from Valencia.

Which meant he was still lingering like a bad smell when Arteta took charge in December looking for ways to stop the Arsenal rot.

Mustafi, who had managed just 90 minutes of Premier League action all season prior to Arteta’s arrival, certainly was not the new manager’s immediate solution to the problem.

But over the past five months he has gradually won his new manager over with his commitment, attitude and dedication to the cause.

Arteta recently said: “We try to help every player to improve, first of all by making them feel that we trust them.

“Everyone can make mistakes, of course, but if they are willing to keep trying then they will get rewarded.

“Musti’s attitude, the way he is training, attention levels, the questions he is asking and how much he wants to help everybody has been really good since I joined.”
