CHELSEA got short shrift on social media after a comedy high in their dramatic Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.
A tall enough order for the Blues against the Champions League winners was Virg-in on the ridiculous when viewers noted 5ft 6ins N'Golo Kante marking Virgil van Dijk - TEN INCHES TALLER - at a corner.
But clips of a backpedalling Kante desperately wrapping his arms around Van Dijk - in a failed to bid to stop the Holland hardman advancing - were a comic consolation for many Blues' fans.
Former Southampton centre-back Van Dijk did not even raise his arms from his sides or look at Kante as he just strode forward as if the pocket-sized grafter was not there.
Chelsea midfielder Jorginho could be seen observing the bizarre match-up - but, like everyone else, the Italy star did nothing to change his side's defensive organisation.
Most Stamford Bridge supporters fans still look up to Kante - but there were plenty of put-downs on Twitter from amused supporters after his dotty duel with Van Dijk.
BETTER LOVE STORY THAN TWILIGHT
One fan joked: "There's no job too big for the Chelsea man".
A lover of football video games felt the confrontation was a walk down memory-stick lane - to when 6ft 7ins ex-Liverpool striker Peter Crouch took on his 5ft 5ins former England team-mate Shaun Wright-Phillips on Pro Evolution Soccer.
He said: "Like @petercrouch and @swp29 on pro evo about 10 years ago."
Some thought it was "cute" the way Van Dijk calmly maintained his march without manhandling Kante out of the way.
Whether that reaction is patronising to French World Cup winner Kane is another matter.
But other fans were more worried about how the odd penalty-area pairing came to happen.
With Chelsea suffering their second defeat in four days under their new young manager, one post read: "Great organisation Frank Lampard - the future of English managers."
But for those supporters who felt it was a (tactical) horror story, there was at least some good news.
One fan tweeted of Kante vs Van Dijk: "Better love story than Twilight."
