Vans underwater and pets carried to safety amid sudden flooding

This was the scene faced by residents in the village of Skewen after heavy flooding on Thursday.

Residents and their pets were rescued from the floodwater after heavy currents flowed down roads leaving vehicles submerged.

More than 100 homes are understood to have been evacuated as emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

The torrent of water comes after heavy rainfall caused by Storm Christoph.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a flooding incident in Skewen which happened at about 12.30pm.

"A number of streets have been flooded and a large number of properties are being evacuated and the residents are being supported by Neath Port Talbot Council.
