South Korea and the US military have fired four surface-to-surface missiles into the sea as tensions with North Korea soared.
It followed North Korea launching a ballistic missile that went over Japan for the first time in five years and prompted a warning for residents there to take cover.
According to the South Korean military one of the four missiles that were sent in response failed shortly after launch before crashing.
South Korea and US warplanes have also conducted bombing drills.
