Hull City admit the club has been forced to delay the sale of its new away kit, such has been the demand which caught it by surprise.
The Tigers revealed their two-tone all black strip last month to worldwide acclaim, with City fans and the wider football community lauding Umbro’s latest design resulting in it selling out within hours.
Fans were set to get their hands on the kit this Friday when it hit the shelves, but owing to what City describe as ‘unprecedented demand’ the general sale will have to wait until October while it is hoped those who placed pre-orders will start to receive their shirts in the next two weeks.
“The response from our fans, and across the world of football, to our new away kit has been absolutely incredible and we’re delighted that it has been received so well,” said the club’s chief commercial officer Joe Clutterbrook.

“At the same time, we would like to apologise for the delay in dispatching pre-orders and to the kit going on general sale in store. Quite frankly, we weren’t prepared for the response the kit has received. We sold out of our total order of adult sizes in the first two days of pre-sale.
“This, combined with an internal error with our systems, and the lengthy lead time on delivery of a new order, will unfortunately create delays on the fulfilment of some pre-orders.
“The dispatch of the majority of pre-orders is likely to begin in the next fortnight. Some pre-orders will not be able to be dispatched this month and those customers affected will receive an email this week with more details.
"We have placed a re-order with Umbro but that new delivery, allowing the kit to go on general sale, is unlikely to be with us before October.
“We will, of course, update supporters as soon as we have more conformed details and we would like to thank everybody that has placed an order for their support.”
