Hello and welcome to our live blog coverage of Tranmere vs Sunderland.

It is the Black Cats' fifth pre-season friendly of the summer following on from Saturday's comfortable victory at Harrogate Town.

Lee Johnson is expected to name a young side for the clash with the League Two side, with Bailey Wright tipped to make his return from injury at Prenton Park.

The Australian defender featured in the opening pre-season encounter with Spennymoor Town, but a groin complaint has ruled him out in recent weeks.

Will Grigg and Lynden Gooch are among the other senior figures who could be handed a start on Tuesday evening, while Aiden McGeady will play no part for the visitors.

Johnson is expected to treat Friday's fixture with Hull City as a dress rehearsal for Sunderland's opening League One fixture against Wigan Athletic on July 7.

Sunderland plotting move for Liverpool full back Tony Gallacher

Sunderland are in talks with Liverpool over a move for defender Tony Gallacher.

The youngster is primed to depart the club this summer and the Black Cats have enquired about a possible loan swoop for the Scottish youngster.

The Liverpool Echo claims Lee Johnson's side are also not ruling out a permanent switch with the two clubs locked in negotiations.

Gallacher is one of a number of Liverpool youngsters expected to leave the club this summer having found game time hard to come by.

The left-back signed for the Reds in 2018 from Falkirk for around £200,000 following a successful trial.

Centre-back Wright played in Sunderland's first pre-season game against Spennymoor Town but has been out of action in recent weeks with a groin problem.
